On the 27th of October 2018, I had the opportunity to attend the ‘She is’ event at This present house in Lagos.
There was a level of healing that happened in my soul that was needed! 🙌🏼 Glory be to God. I would be sharing some of my experience of the event in this post.
Pastor Nomti was one of the speakers and below are some notes I made from the day.
Bible reading was from: Genesis 2:18
“The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.””
Genesis 2:18 NIV
The profile of Eve had been established. Adam needed Eve to carry on with the Lord’s business. Despite Eve’s mistake, God chose to use Mary, woman, to bring about the greatest gift to humanity.
A woman should not be put under pressure because she has to be found. So if you are a woman, don’t worry about pressure, just be the woman God wants you to be. Note that Adam had a garden to work on, the person you want to marry, what are they working on?
Does your choice of ‘head’ have the ability to hear God? Adam had a relationship and conversation with God and so did Joseph (Mary’s husband). If you are in a situation where your head does not listen to or hear God, remind yourself that prayer changes things. If you feel you got it wrong, don’t worry about it, don’t be depressed. Pray about it, tell God that you want to fulfill purpose. Joseph was not intimidated by Mary even though it was her God first came to, because Joseph could hear from God too he was willing to follow God and help Mary fulfill her calling. Do not succumb to pressure to marry the wrong person.
The business panel (combat boots and stilettos) included:
Mrs Udo Okonjo
Uche Pedro of BellaNaija
These are some notes I made during the business panel session:
The proverbs 31 woman does not happen over night. Women should evolve and continue living intentionally. Look at the proverbs 31 woman as a role model.
Women need to learn to be confident and competent. Sometimes women are the ones who give more pressure to women. If the men can set standards and not be called Thatcher and other intimidating names, then you should set your standard and maintain it, with God ALWAYS as your guide.
Take quiet times. Take breaks off social media, so that you are not built into what the world wants you to be.
One of the panelists made one of her major negotiations from her bed, recovering from breast cancer. Let this be an inspiration to you to strive and thrive.
Yes there a cultures and traditions even in Africa that makes women feel less than important but you just have to remind yourself, even when you are spoken to in family settings to keep quiet because you are a woman, that your identify comes from God. Some cutltures previously did not even allow women own lands.
Women learn to be emotionally intelligent, so that you are not seen as weak.
So: who is she? Who is a woman?
She is (she loves herself)
She is who God has called her to be
She is a power woman
She is limitless
Comedian: Chi gurl
Betty Irabor (Mrs) was also present and she spoke. She spoke about turning your pain to power. Mrs Irabor spoke of her over 7 years depression. Gradually she went to therapy and eventually returned back to praying to her God and healed. So be kind to people. Complement the women you come across. Be careful what you say because you don’t know what people are going through.
Mrs Rapu reminded us that it is okay to seek Christian counsel, as they would help lead you back to God in your healing.
See, I couldn’t even chronicle it all.
From a lady whose mom didn’t feel satisfied because she was female to a woman who lost her 19 years old son, there was so much inspiration from the event.
You have to make the best of your every situation and know you identity and choose the perspective you want to look at life through.
Be careful not to get into the norm
Water your own garden.
Have days or weeks off social media. Detox.
Stop the constant comparison with other people. Focus on your own unique journey and process. If God has called you to a purpose do it. If it’s a house wife do it, because even if you are considered successful by men and are an investment banker, if that is not God’s calling for you, then you are not successful.
Be a friend. Care for one people. You may not have the same calling or level of richness with your friends but check up on each other.
It was a healing and insightful event.
It’s powerful when women of God gather together to remind themselves of their identity in God.
To the organizers of the ‘She is’ event, thank you.
Thank you Pastor and Pastor (Mrs) Rapu.
