Ever told a child not to touch a plate because it was hot or keep away from an object because it was sharp and had the tendency to injure them?
Have you as an adult ever been advised by your friend or someone much older, to wait till a later time before eating that chocolate covered cake and/or milkshake that you so desire? It may feel like you just need to have it now now or other wise something would happen to you.
You defy your common sense and that of your advisers and before you know it you throw up because you were already too full before chunking in that bite or you end up tossing and turning that night because your stomach is complaining, perhaps of an overdose of sugary and maybe diary products after that milk shake.
“There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.”
Proverbs 14:12 NIV
Like the child, you have ended up doing something that hurts. The child probably even has a defense because they don’t necessarily ‘Know Better’ as compared to you. There is an absolute place for listening and taking to advice and agreeing in totality to the word of God. God knows the end from the beginning and whether following Him today seems pleasant or not, it’s usually sure to keep you from a sentence of side effects and regrets.
There may be times we have asked God for something that we didn’t need at all or that we needed to wait for but have gone on to get by ourself because we felt grown and capable, and so we moved on to go have it, even though it was something or someone that was in total not meant for us or maybe it was the timing God wanted to be fulfilled for us before we have it.
If we don’t check our pleasures and pressures, often the two things that push us to act, we may latter find ourselves returning back to God and PUSHing and begging for a reversal of the effects of the decisions we have made.
The great thing though is that God is merciful and He loves us so much. So even if you feel at this point in your life you have made decisions that has detoured you from the path initially planned by God for you, I urge you to return back to him, for He is able to restore you Once and For all back to Himself. I only hope that as we grow and mature, and that we don’t take our maturity for independence from God and that we learn to constantly hold on to Him.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
Seek the Lord always and trust in him. God is more than able to direct and more than able to redeem and restore. Keep your mind on Him, always.
